Vetco sourced our conductive thread from Kitronik, a high-quality e-textile supplier in the UK - it is regarded to be among the best conductive thread available.
Conductive thread is at the heart of any wearable/e-textile project. It can be sewn to clothing or fabric using a standard needle or sewing machine and acts just like regular thread - except that it is conductive! It can be rewound onto a standard sewing machine thread bobbin if desired.
The magic of this conductive thread is in it's expertly engineered construction - the thread is nano platted with silver to make it conductive. The conductive thread has a low resistance of approximately 40 Ohms per meter (about 12 ohms per foot). This allows LEDs to be powered over long distances without worrying about voltage drop. Resistance does not vary significantly from one length of thread to the next, so you should be able to use this thread without concern for "dead" or dim sections.
The conductive thread has a breaking strength of around 9.3 pounds. It is constructed from approximately 96 individual filaments, each coated with a micron-thick layer of natural silver. During the construction process, 16 of these filaments are wound together to form an initial twist; two of these twists are then twisted together, and finally three of these twists are combined to form the finished thread. The conductive thread is approximately 18 denier, which is heavier than a regular sewing thread, but not as heavy as an upholstery thread. It can be sewn on most domestic sewing machines using either a regular needle or the next size up. This thread does not fray.
